2/13/2020 Project Development Session 4


Students develop their ongoing 2nd semester projects. All participants are divided into groups within their mediums with teaching artists, groups include: A. Documentary film making (Suzette Burton) B. Lyrics and Music Production (Baba Israel, Grace Galu) C. Craftmaking (Ken Fury) D. Poetry/Playwriting (Raquel Almazan).

1. Two students perform poems in preparation for performance. 2. Grace expands lyric writing in relationship to themes that are important to the students . 3. Richard the playwright writes three monologues in response to prompts based on the theme of homeless teens. 4. Documentary film makers create a list of possible interviewees and begin to review equipment in stock. 5. Preparation for the field trip Fandango for Butterflies and Coyotes. 6. Attendance to the musical about deportation. 7. Raquel program director moderates a talk back with artists and advocates.

2/11/2020 Project Development Session 3

Students develop their ongoing 2nd semester projects. All participants are divided into groups within their mediums with teaching artists, groups include: A. Documentary film making (Suzette Burton) B. Lyrics and Music Production (Baba Israel, Grace Galu) C. Craftmaking (Ken Fury) D. Poetry/Playwriting (Raquel Almazan).

1. Baba Israel introduces beat making techniques to the music group. 2. Ken takes students to local LES thrift stores to gather wardrobe and styling ideas. 3. Raquel and Suzette run through interview techinques with Richard the playwright and doc makers.

2/6/2020 Project Development Session 2

Students develop their ongoing 2nd semester projects. All participants are divided into groups within their mediums with teaching artists, groups include: A. Documentary film making (Suzette Burton) B. Lyrics and Music Production (Baba Israel, Grace Galu) C. Craftmaking (Ken Fury) D. Poetry/Playwriting (Raquel Almazan).


1. Documentary groups continued to work through log lines and started to create synopsis for their films. 2. Music group read the poem, Ritually Ruined by Lady Logic a teenage poet. Grace lead a discussion about the use of the language in the piece and the themes, how it resonated with the students; creating short poetry pieces in response. 3. Craftmaking group continued sketching prototypes of clothing, sculptures and identifying materials needed.
  






2/4/2020 Project Development Session 1

1/23/2020 Intro to Documentary editing with Suzette Burton


Editing video techniques were explored on the Adobe Premiere Pro program as well as the IMOVIE program via students cell phones. Suzette Burton lead students through a tutorial on building titling at the top of your film, selecting choices on adjusting lighting and additional effects to capture a professional finish to students one minute docs.















1/21/2020 Intro to Documentary interviewing and recording with Suzette Burton


Students engaged in the setting up of three point lighting and camera set up in the space. In pairs students practiced interview techniques within the set up created. Each interview was recorded via camera and sound.
